An Ensign, an Iris, and a Rainbow

The imagery of Yeshua as Living Water leaves me awe-filled, and it’s something that I enjoy thinking of when I sit quietly.  Since becoming a regular reader of the Word, the verses that specifically reference water and anything water-related tend to stand out to me.  (According to the Christian Post, “water” is mentioned 722 times in the Bible.  I stay busy.)  So, when I first read “ensign” in a verse, my curiosity kicked in, and I headed to the dictionary.

“Ensign” is defined as the national flag flown on a vessel to indicate nationality.  They’re required to be flown when entering and leaving harbor, when sailing through foreign waters, and when the ship is signaled to do so by a warship.  (Source:  Wikipedia) In a nutshell, the ship didn’t move an inch without flying its ensign, leaving no doubt as to the ownership of the vessel.

What was the verse that piqued my curiosity?  Isaiah 11:10 KJV, which says, “And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.”  WOW!!!

As I’ve been thinking about Biblical flags lately, I’m not surprised that God reminded me that an Iris is also called a Flag.  The Iris—specifically the purple Iris (also known as blue flags)—is the state flower of Tennessee, and they’re abundant in this part of the country.   The purple iris represents royalty, valor, and wisdom.  (Source:  Crossville Chronicle).  Blue is the color of the sky and a reminder of the heavenly realm.  WOW!!!

I head back to the dictionary, and I’m informed that Iris means “rainbow.”  Wait, what?  I check to see what Strong’s Concordance says, and it’s confirmed.  A rainbow!!  A sign of God’s faithfulness and mercy, a visible reminder of His covenant with us.  As it says in Genesis 9:13 KVJ, “I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.”

So what do an ensign, an Iris and a rainbow have to do with finances?  Absolutely everything!  Each of these is a visible reminder of who we belong to and that no detail is ever too small for the King of Kings.  We are heirs to the Kingdom of God through Yeshua.  He knows what we need before we even ask, and He knows what we’re up against in this world.  We have no reason to fear, no reason to worry or be anxious for anything—including money.
